RAFAEL GARCIA-MOLINA

Full Professor of Applied Physics - Universidad de Murcia

Full Professor of Applied Physics at the Physics Department of the University of Murcia (Spain). The focus of my research is the interaction of charged particles (electrons, light ions, and molecules) with condensed matter (solids and liquids), with special attention to targets of biological interest (liquid water, DNA, protein…) due to its potential use in hadron therapy to treat tumors. The tools I use are simulation codes and theoretical models, with the dielectric formalism as the main framework, but properly modified and improved when needed to account for effects not well described in the first-Born approximation.

I also devote part of my time to improve and disseminate physics teaching methodologies, as well as to physics outreach.

Fruitful collaboration is (and has been) done with researchers at European Centre for Theoretical Studies in Nuclear Physics and Related Areas -ECT* (Trento, Italy); Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares -IPEN (São Paulo, Brazil); Centro Atómico Bariloche (Argentina); University of Ioannina (Greece), Federico Santa María University (Valparaíso, Chile), and Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Porto Alegre, Brazil), among other research centers.
