PABLO DE VERA

Assistant Professor at the Research Centre for Optics and Nanophysics, of the Department of Physics of the University of Murcia

I am tenured Assistant Professor (Profesor Contratado Doctor) at the Physics Department of Universidad de Murcia (Spain) and an experienced researcher specialised in the theory and computer simulation of the interaction and effects of beams of ions and electrons with condensed matter and molecular systems, for applications which include biophysics, materials science, physical chemistry and nanotechnology. My main interests are on the interaction of swift charged particles (ion and electron beams) with condensed-phase biological materials used for radiotherapy applications. I have experience on the theoretical calculation of cross sections for charged-particle electronic interaction with condensed matter, and its implementation in Monte Carlo radiation transport simulation codes, as well as with the exploitation of results from ab initio and molecular dynamics simulations.

Current research activities with several international collaborators, including the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Computational Science at the European Centre for Theoretical Studies in Nuclear Physics and Related Areas (ECT*), Trento (Italy), the Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares (IPEN), São Paulo (Brazil) or the Key Laboratory of Materials Physics of the Institute of Solid State Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei (People’s Republic of China).
